Assam Govt Medical College Professors will now retire at age of 70

The Assam Cabinet decided on August 19 to raise the retirement age for faculty members at government medical colleges in the state from 65 to 70 years.

The move is intended to increase the availability of experienced doctors for educational and medical services, according to government spokesperson and Minister of Water Resources Pijush Hazarika.

He also stated that the cabinet decided to sanction Rs 136.8 crore for the implementation of the Free Drugs and Consumables scheme for 2022-23, which will ensure the continuous availability of free essential drugs, surgicals, disinfectants, chemicals, and consumables in government health facilities.

It also approved the decision to re-hire 66 former Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd (HPCL) employees in vacant grade-III and -IV positions through a special recruitment drive with a relaxation of the upper age limit, according to Hazarika.
