10 years of Jandhan Yojna,  2.31 crore deposited in accounts

Jan Dhan Yojana: The central government has introduced several schemes that have brought significant changes to people’s lives. Among these, the most successful is considered to be the ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.’ On August 28, this scheme completed 10 years. The PM Jan Dhan Yojana was launched by the Prime Minister during his first term. It was implemented across the country on August 28, 2014. Let’s take a look at the benefits this scheme has provided over the past 10 years.

Fund deposit direct to account

Through the Jan Dhan Yojana, bank accounts with zero balance were opened for people in every village and town. This enabled even ordinary people to connect with the banking system. Having a bank account made it easier for people to benefit from other government schemes. The government directly transfers funds related to various schemes into the beneficiaries’ accounts, and beneficiaries can withdraw money from their accounts according to their needs. This proved to be especially beneficial during the COVID-19 pandemic when banks were closed, and the government needed to get money to the people. The government also deposits funds for schemes like the Kisan Samman Nidhi, NREGA, and MNREGA into Jan Dhan accounts.

Objective of this scheme

In 2014 Narendra Modi’s first decision was to connect ordinary citizens with the banking system. To achieve this, the government launched the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, under which even the poorest of the poor could open a bank account with zero balance. Following this, social security schemes began to be delivered directly to beneficiaries through Direct Bank Transfer (DBT). The objective of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was to include the marginalized sections of society, who previously had no access to banks, into the banking system.

53.13 crore beneficiaries

Under this government initiative, people were given the convenience of opening a bank account with zero balance, and there is no need for an identifier to open a Jan Dhan account. This is why a large number of people have taken advantage of the Jan Dhan scheme. According to government data, there are now over 53.13 crore beneficiaries of this scheme.
