Meet Ravi, a 14-year-old from Delhi, who once toiled as a labourer but now proudly attends 7th grade. His story, like many others, took a remarkable turn in 2021 when he joined the school. It’s a story woven by Than Singh, a police constable with a heart of gold. Ravi’s journey reflects the incredible impact of education on the lives of underprivileged children.
Introducing Than Singh and His Pathshala
Than Singh, hailing from Rajasthan, migrated to Delhi with dreams and determination. He knew the struggle of balancing education and financial constraints all too well. Despite odds, he became a police constable, but his heart tugged him towards something more profound. In 2015, he started “Than Singh ki Pathshala” to provide free education to kids like Ravi, caught in the cycle of poverty and labour.
Breaking the Chains of Poverty and Crime
Through his pathshala, Than Singh is transforming lives. Over 80 children, who once scavenged, begged, or loitered, now have a chance at education. Of these, 75 receive formal education. His mission is not just academic; it’s about steering these children away from the clutches of crime and providing a path to a brighter future.
Education as a Beacon of Hope
Than Singh’s pathshala doesn’t just teach alphabets; it fosters dreams. After their regular school hours, children flock to “Than Singh ki Pathshala” for extra help and guidance. With dedication, Than Singh has enrolled many of them in government schools, boosting their confidence and ensuring they excel academically.
Community Support
Than Singh’s mission thrives on community support, with a team of 50 volunteers and three full-time teachers, his Pathshala is a beacon of hope. Donations, from food to uniforms, pour in, ensuring these children receive the education they deserve. The nearby gurudwara’s langar, e-rickshaw drivers offering free rides, and Singh’s personal dedication create a support network that uplifts these children’s lives.
Than Singh’s commitment goes beyond education; it’s about igniting possibilities. His students, like Ravi, dream of becoming more than their circumstances. With a heart full of compassion and determination, Than Singh lights up lives, one lesson at a time.
