The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, launched by the Ministry of Railways in February 2023, is a mission to revamp 1,309 railway stations across India. The goal is to modernize these stations, making them well-equipped hubs with enhanced amenities for passengers and improved overall infrastructure.

 The project prioritizes ecologically friendly solutions, modern infrastructure such as ballast-free lines, and novel concepts like ‘Roof Plazas’. The long-term strategy involves developing stations into lively city hubs, promoting multimodal integration, and improving passenger experience through better services and infrastructure.

Key Features of the Scheme:

1. Modern Passenger Amenities: The scheme focuses on providing clean waiting areas, restrooms, and food outlets to ensure a comfortable experience for passengers.

2. Improved Traffic Circulation: Efforts are made to streamline the flow of passengers and vehicles by creating separate entry and exit points, widening roads, and providing ample parking facilities.

3. Inter-Modal Integration: Enhancing connectivity between railway stations and other modes of transportation like buses, taxis, and auto-rickshaws for seamless travel.

7 stations of Chhattisgarh will be redeveloped

7 railway stations of Chhattisgarh will be redeveloped at a cost of Rs 1500 crore under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. With a view to the overall urban development of the city, master plans are being prepared to develop these stations as ‘city centres’.

Under this scheme, Bilaspur, Raipur, Durg, Akaltara, Bhilai Power House, Tilda-Nevra railway stations will be rejuvenated.

Here, foot over bridge, lift escalator, upgradation of circulating area, upgradation of waiting hall and toilet, improvement in station lighting, signage, train and coach indicator board, increase in parking space, expansion of platform area, shed, construction of local art and culture etc. The external appearance of the station will be upgraded accordingly.

 After the completion of the works related to redevelopment of the stations, passengers will get world class facilities like airports. After redevelopment, these stations will become attractive hubs of technology, local culture and rich heritage with hi-tech passenger amenities.

With the increase in the number of passengers, there will be a huge possibility of increase in employment which will benefit the local people.
