In a significant move towards holistic development in areas deeply affected by Maoist extremism in Bastar, the government has launched the Niyad Nellanar or ‘Your Good Village’ plan. The plan aims to ensure infrastructural development, essential amenities, and overall social and economic upliftment in these sensitive regions.
Commissioner Shyam Dhawde, overseeing Bastar, expressed the importance of addressing the impact of Maoist activities in the region. The Niyad Nellanar plan specifically focuses on the development of 58 villages surrounding 16 newly established security camps in Dantewada, Sukma, Bijapur, Narayanpur, and Kanker districts.
1.Novel Approaches for Rural Development
Commissioner Dhawde emphasized the need for innovative approaches to uplift the identified areas. He highlighted the importance of implementing 32 designated projects and services, focusing on fundamental facilities like education, health, drinking water, roads, electricity, and mobile towers.
2. Health Services in Focus
In a bid to improve health services, Commissioner Dhawde conducted a review of the available facilities at Bastar Medical College and Jagdalpur Medical College. He also announced the appointment of a full-time cardiologist to enhance medical services in the region. Additionally, plans were discussed to build healthcare centres in remote villages and ensure the availability of medical professionals and necessary resources.
3. Inclusive Housing and Essential Supplies
Commissioner Dhawde highlighted the government’s commitment to providing housing, free electricity, ration cards, and essential supplies to identified vulnerable families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Special attention is given to ensuring the benefits reach the tribal population in these areas.
4. Empowering Youth through Education
Recognizing the geographical challenges, Commissioner Dhawde stressed the importance of improving education facilities. This involves establishing new schools, ensuring proper teacher deployment, and initiating educational exchange programs for tribal youth. Additionally, skill development training will be provided to empower local youth for self-employment opportunities.
5. Connecting Rural Areas for Development
A crucial aspect of the plan is to improve connectivity in these remote villages. The government aims to construct all-weather roads, ensuring accessibility and promoting overall development. Commissioner Dhawde urged the creation of cooperative societies involving local youth to support and maintain the road infrastructure.
6. Simplifying Access to Government Services
To ensure easy access to government services, Commissioner Dhawde proposed the establishment of cooperative societies at the block level. These societies would facilitate the seamless distribution of essential commodities and ensure the smooth operation of public services.
7. Ensuring Agriculture and Livelihood Growth
Recognizing the importance of agriculture, livestock farming, and horticulture, the plan aims to provide support to farmers. This includes issuing Kisan Credit Cards, enrolling farmers in the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
8. Bridging the Digital Divide
The plan acknowledges the importance of digital connectivity in today’s age. Efforts will be made to install mobile towers and provide internet services to improve digital connectivity in these remote areas, bridging the digital divide.
9. Community Participation and Feedback Mechanism
Commissioner Dhawde stressed the importance of community involvement and feedback mechanisms. Regular public service camps will be organized to address concerns, gather feedback, and ensure that government initiatives are meeting the needs of the local population.
Positive takeaway
The Niyad Nellanar plan represents a significant step towards the comprehensive development of Bastar’s Maoist-affected areas. By focusing on education, health, connectivity, and community engagement, the government aims to create a brighter future for the people of Bastar, ensuring that development reaches every corner of these remote regions.
