Budget 2024: Govt’s New Plan To Assist Middle-Class Own Homes

In the recent Budget announcement for 2024-25, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman shared exciting news about a new housing scheme. This initiative aims to help people living in rented homes, slums, or unauthorized colonies to buy or build their own houses.

Part of the ‘Housing for All’ Mission

The government’s larger mission, ‘Housing for All,’ includes existing programs like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Rural. This new housing scheme aligns with these efforts to ensure everyone has access to a home.

Building 2 crore Homes in the Next Five Years

Sitharaman highlighted the success of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Rural scheme, which has already built 3 crore houses. Looking ahead, the government plans to take on another 2 crore houses over the next five years. This proactive approach aims to meet the increasing demand for housing due to a growing number of families.

Boosting Urban and Affordable Housing

In the Union Budget for 2023, there was a significant 66% increase in the allocation for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme, totaling ₹79,000 crore for the fiscal year 2024. Out of this amount, ₹25,103 crore has been specifically set aside for PMAY-Urban to accelerate the ‘Housing for All’ mission in urban areas. The remaining funds will support the PMAY-Rural scheme.

This budgetary focus emphasizes the government’s commitment to providing affordable and accessible housing options for all citizens.

Positive takeaway

Owning a home is a dream cherished by many, symbolizing security, stability, and a place to call one’s own. Recognizing the significance of homeownership, the government has taken a monumental step in the Budget 2024 announcement.

In an effort to make this dream a reality for middle-class citizens, renters, and those living in slums, the government unveiled a comprehensive housing scheme. This initiative is a crucial component of the overarching ‘Housing for All’ mission, aiming to provide affordable housing solutions and improve the overall living conditions for citizens across the country.

This initiative not only addresses the immediate housing needs of the people but also contributes to the long-term goal of creating vibrant, sustainable communities with a strong sense of belonging.

It signifies a positive stride towards fostering a society where every individual has a place they can proudly call home, fostering a brighter and more secure future for families across the nation.
