Children are particularly vulnerable, as polluted air can slow their lung development and cause long-term respiratory problems.

Delhi has become one of the most polluted cities in the world, especially during the winter months. The air quality worsens due to several factors. Stubble burning in nearby states releases large amounts of smoke into the air, which drifts towards Delhi. Vehicle emissions from the city’s heavy traffic also contribute significantly to the pollution. Dust from construction activities adds to the problem, and during festivals, firecrackers further deteriorate the air quality. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi often reaches hazardous levels, making it unsafe to breathe for residents, leading to an increase in health issues like coughing, allergies, and respiratory infections.

How to Reduce Impact of Air Pollution 

While air pollution cannot be eliminated overnight, steps can be taken to reduce its impact. Wearing masks while going outside can help protect against harmful particles in the air. Using air purifiers at home can improve indoor air quality. Planting more trees is a natural way to clean the air, as trees absorb harmful gases and release oxygen. Reducing vehicle use by opting for public transport, cycling, or walking can significantly lower emissions. Educating people about the dangers of air pollution and encouraging collective efforts to address it is also crucial.
