The Virtual Smart Grid Knowledge Center (Virtual SGKC) and Innovation Park have been launched virtually by R.K. Singh, Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy, and Krishan Pal Gurjar, Minister of State for Power.
Overview:
The virtual SGKC is the SGKC’s digital twin, and it mimics the SGKC’s facilities via an online platform. With funding from the Ministry of Power (MOP), POWERGRID built the Virtual SGKC for the advancement and demonstration of smart grid technology.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) helped build up the centre with technical assistance.
The government’s first-of-its-kind Virtual Smart Grid Knowledge Centre is housed in Manesar’s POWERGRID centre.
The solutions that are physically present in SGKC’s Manesar headquarters are likewise hosted on this platform.
Smart houses, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), outage management systems (OMS), microgrids, and other technologies fall into this category.
All of the existing SGKC offers are accessible via the Virtual SGKC platform. Currently, the platform hosts over 50 products from over 30 technology partners spanning eight theme areas, including AI, machine learning, blockchain, and IoT.
The SGKC’s mission
The Smart Grid Knowledge Center (SGKC) aspires to be one of the leading centres of excellence for smart grid technology innovation, entrepreneurship, and research, as well as capacity building in the electricity distribution business.
The Smart Grid Knowledge Center’s mission
With support from the Ministry of Power, POWERGRID developed the SGKC in Manesar, Haryana in 2018. The SGKC was established to provide utilities and other power sector players with capacity building and knowledge on the deployment of Smart Grid technologies.
To give hands-on training in this field, SGKC has working models of smart grid technologies as well as state-of-the-art training infrastructure. The institution has already taught over 500 experts in the electricity sector on a national and international basis.
