The Center for Creative Learning (CCL) at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has announced a partnership with ScooNews, an education media platform, to provide the largest science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) workshops for schools in India.
STEAM Yatra to train 1 lakh students
This initiative will train over 1 lakh STEAM students across the country. STEAM Yatra is truly unique; the ‘Tour of India’ includes two teams from CCL and ScooNews travelling to different cities to provide one-day workshops with students and teachers. CCL’s STEAM Yatra curriculum includes material for students in grades 6 through 12. In the next year, the institute hopes to reach 150-20 schools.
STEAM Yatra aims to provide students and teachers with hands-on experience that will aid in the application of learning topics to the real world. The workshop’s main goal is to help young minds understand basic conceptual understanding, to lay a solid foundation, and to increase critical thinking in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. The initiative is “designed to nurture children’s inner creative thinking and to help them explore, innovate, and take risks.”
CCL-IIT Gandhinagar, Manish Jain said, “We really believe that the most important need of the hour is to make education engaging and inspiring and in that regard one of the best tools are Toys and Games which helps in integrating STEM and ART. We are very excited to travel across the country to spread the message and Bring Back the Gleam in the Eyes of our children.”
The Center for Creative Learning at IITGN was established in April 2017. “The idea was, and remains, to immerse oneself in a subject in order to learn it, to do rather than read. We need to make our classes engaging, provide experiential learning, foster creativity and innovation with sole focus on concepts. ” says the IITGN official website.
