Holi, the festival of colors, resonates with various mythological and scientific perspectives. One of the beauties of festivals in our country, India, is that each festival communicates with us, teaching us something. Holi seems to welcome the arrival of spring with its vibrant hues. The changing weather echoes the transition. And when it comes to change, how delightful it is to welcome the various colors of life by burning the burdens of the past during the Holika Dahan ritual!
Every emotion is associated with a color. Red signifies love, green symbolizes growth, yellow represents enthusiasm, and blue denotes energy. Life should be filled with colors, just as it is filled with emotions, to be observed and enjoyed differently. If all colors are mixed together, they will appear black. Similarly, every role played by an individual, every circumstance they are in, should have their complete involvement, and then life will be colorful.
In ancient times, this concept was termed as “Varnashram,” meaning every individual, regardless of their profession, is expected to fulfill their roles with complete enthusiasm. Keeping these different roles of the mind separate is the secret to a happy life, and this is what Holi teaches.
Just as all colors originate from the color white, but when they are mixed, they turn black. When our mind is calm, pure, and content, various colors and emotions arise. We gain the power to truly fulfill every role we play in life. However, if we fail to keep these emotions separate, they become entangled within us.
All thoughts and emotions originate from within the soul. Just as you arrange different colors in a tray to decorate, you understand them well, keep them separate, similarly, when you know yourself from within, you can differentiate and play each emotion and role correctly.
So, this Holi, let’s start by recognizing our own colors and contribute to making the external world colorful and beautiful with the vibrant layers within us. When enthusiasm naturally arises, life becomes colorful in its entirety.
