West Bengal govt. increases upper age limit for police recruitment to 30 years



The West Bengal government decided on August 31 to raise the upper age limit for police constable recruitment from 27 to 30 years, according to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Decision made to relax age requirement

She also stated that a decision was made to relax the age and physical measurement requirements for appointment on compassionate grounds under the exempted category to the next of kin of police personnel.

Upper age limits of up to 35 years

The chief minister also announced that civic volunteers, village police, home guards, and civil defence personnel will be eligible for promotion, and that upper age limits of up to 35 years and physical measurements will be relaxed during promotion to the position of constables.

In addition, the state announced the implementation of uniform allowances for various categories of police personnel in West Bengal Police and Kolkata Police.
