500 disabled persons will receive customised motorised wheelchairs thanks to a partnership between Global Auto Components Major MOBIS and IIT Madras-incubated Start-up NeoMotion.
The motorised wheelchair created by NeoMotion is a wholly domestic, “made in India” product that was created with consideration for Indian conditions to be a high-quality but reasonably priced item.
500 people with disabilities will now have access to personalised motorised wheelchairs thanks to a collaboration between global auto component manufacturer MOBIS and the start-up NeoMotion, which was incubated at IIT Madras and focuses on creating indigenous rehabilitative devices. Under its “Accessibility and Freedom” CSR
Initiative, MOBIS has embarked on this initiative. In other regions of the country, more beneficiaries would be found.

At the MOBIS plant in Sriperumbudur, Chennai, the wheelchairs were distributed to the first 50 recipients on Monday (12th December 2022). The “NeoFly” wheelchairs are created to order after a clinical evaluation of the beneficiary to ensure the right fit and posture.
Additionally, a “NeoBolt” scooter clip-on gadget enables wheelchairs to be driven on public roadways. This gives them the ability to finish their school, look for employment, and gain empowerment.
On occasion, donation camps only offer a single one-size-fits-all wheelchair type, which is inefficient and causes adverse effects like back and shoulder pain for the recipients. The customised products that MOBIS is offering will considerably raise the quality of life for the user.
Prem Sai, Head Of Human Resources at Hyundai MOBIS, emphasised the special features of this project, saying, “As part of MOBIS, we largely focus on the fronts of Medical and Education through our CSR initiatives, which would produce a beneficial influence on worthy people.
In the past two years, Mobis Foundation has expanded a number of CSR projects that support numerous government schools by adding new classrooms, restrooms, benches, and desks; building Anganwadis; providing housing assistance for transgender people; revitalising ponds to save water bodies; and providing nutritional assistance to expectant mothers in order to lower the child mortality rate.”
“This excellent effort provides 500 motorised wheelchairs as part of medical assistance to help people with disabilities live independently in and around Chennai, Haryana, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. We are confident that doing this will allow them to provide for their entire family, not just for themselves, he continued.
There will be 500 beneficiaries assessed
500 Beneficiaries will be evaluated as part of this study, and their NeoFly and NeoBolt will be distributed. More than 300 have already undergone evaluations in Delhi, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
Nearly 100 units have now been distributed through three camps, and recipients have received instructions on how to use the equipment securely. The fourth such handover ceremony took place at Sriperumbudur’s MOBIS Factory.
NeoMotion’s CEO, Mr. Swostik Sourav Dash, thanked MOBIS India for their support and added, “Many wheelchair users who could benefit from our products but are unable to purchase on their own frequently come to us.
When we approached MOBIS about sponsoring the goods for those in need, they gladly accepted our request. Such initiatives are effective in ensuring that every wheelchair user has the opportunity to integrate into society at large.”
