In the month of January 2022, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) rescued over 1,000 children from railway stations across India as part of “Operation Nanhe Farishte.” Child Help Desks are currently available in 132 train stations around the country.
701 boys and 344 girls were among the rescued children who were sheltered by the forces. Many youngsters are taken from train stations every year, according to the RPF, and are ultimately exploited and trafficked. Child Help Desks are currently operational at 132 railway stations across India.
Railways’ Other Initiatives
Several additional procedures were taken as part of the “Mahila Suraksha” effort to ensure the safety of female travellers. The RPF stationed “Meri Saheli” units at key railway stations in January 2022 with the purpose of providing security to female travellers, particularly those travelling alone. Approximately 13,000 trains were used to cover the operation across India.
- Operation Mahila Suraksha
As part of “operation Mahila Suraksha,” Indian Railways has taken a number of additional actions. This effort ensures that female travellers are more secure.
- Meri Saheli squads
During the month of January 2022, the RPF deployed “Meri Saheli” squads at strategic railway stations. They were sent out to ensure the safety of female passengers, particularly those travelling alone. In
India, over 13,000 trains were involved in the operation. Five others were also detained by the RPF on suspicion of molestation and eve-teasing. A total of 2,185 persons were apprehended while riding in ladies’ coaches.
- Operation Matrishakti
During “Operation Matrishakti,” female RPF personnel went above and beyond the call of duty to assist pregnant women in labour on the train. RPF troops who are female make up roughly 9% of the whole force. In January, seven pregnant women passengers received aid, which was crucial in the delivery of their children.
- Mission Jeewan Raksha
In January, RPF forces saved 42 people, including 20 men and 22 women on duty, as part of “Mission Jeewan Raksha.”
- Operation Yatri Surakhsha
The RPF also assists state police in the battle against passenger crime as part of “Operation Yatri Surakhsha.” During the same time period, the RPF detained over 300 criminals who were involved in 254 passenger-related offences.
