Paray Shikshalaya is an open classroom. The West Bengal government will be the one to launch it. The Paray Shikshalaya has been established for students in pre-primary and primary school.

Characteristics

Elementary education will be provided to children in classes 1 through 5 under the system. The classes will take place on the ground. Extracurricular activities would be promoted and supported among the students . Meals will be served in the middle of the day.

The scheme’s necessity

According to NITI Aayog, the primary school dropout rate was 6.61 percent in 2010-11. In addition, since COVID, the number of pupils attending school has declined across India. West Bengal’s rural areas are yet to obtain internet access. The open room classroom is the ideal technique to bring in primary school children in this situation. It is reasonably priced. To carry out its plan, the state administration has already taken out loans from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Education in West Bengal

Bengali or English language is mostly used to provide instructions. Urudu is also used in central Kolkata. The state is mostly known for its higher education institutions. The state’s literacy rate jumped from 68.64 percent in 2001 to 77.08 percent in 2011. The literacy rate for women is 70.54 percent, whereas it is 81.69 percent for men. Purba Medinipur, West Bengal, Kolkata, Howrah, and Hugli are the state’s most literate districts. The education system in the state is based on the 10+2+3 system. To comply with the new Education Policy for 2020, the state’s education pattern may be changed to 5+3+3+4.

West Bengal’s educational initiatives

The state’s key education programmes are the National Program for Girls’ Elementary Education, the National Program of Nutritional Support to Primary Education, and the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. These three programmes were largely responsible for the growth in literacy rates.

How is the state’s performance in the field?

In the state, there are more than 33 universities. There is also over 500 degree-granting institutions. The state is one of India’s most prominent educational centres. Seven colleges in the state were ranked in the top hundred by the National Institute Ranking Framework. In addition, five of the state’s universities were ranked first.
