You Can Track, Recover Your Lost Mobile Phones Via the Government Website; Here’s How

In a move to assist citizens in recovering their lost or stolen mobile phones, the Indian government is set to unveil a user-friendly portal on May 17. The website, sancharsaathi.gov.in, aims to provide a comprehensive solution for tracking and locating missing devices. This exciting development is a part of the government’s commitment to World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

Here are five key facts about the new portal:

1. Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to Officially Launch the Sanchar Saathi Portal: This significant step highlights the government’s dedication to enhancing mobile phone security for its citizens.
2. Nationwide Coverage and Accessibility: The portal will be accessible to the entire country, serving mobile phone users connected to all telecom circles. This inclusive approach ensures anyone can utilize the platform to track and locate their missing devices.
3. Expanding from Delhi and Mumbai to Nationwide Coverage: Initially catering to the Delhi and Mumbai circles, the portal’s reach will now extend to all telecom circles in the country. This expansion allows users from various regions to benefit from the portal’s features and services.
4. Impressive Track Record of Recovery: The Sanchar Saathi portal has already demonstrated its effectiveness, with over 4,70,000 lost or stolen mobile phones successfully blocked through its intervention. Additionally, more than 2,40,000 devices have been tracked, leading to the recovery of approximately 8,000 phones. This remarkable track record emphasizes the portal’s instrumental role in helping citizens reclaim their lost possessions.
5. Enhanced Security Measures: Apart from tracking lost or stolen devices, the portal also offers additional security features. Users can access their SIM card numbers and block them if someone else attempts to use their SIM with the owner’s ID. This feature adds an extra layer of protection against unauthorized use.

About the Sanchar Saathi Portal and how it works

The Sanchar Saathi portal can empower mobile subscribers to strengthen their device security and raise awareness about government initiatives that prioritize the welfare of citizens. It allows users to track the mobile connections issued in their name, disconnect unwanted connections, block or trace missing devices, and verify the authenticity of new or used phones. The portal comprises various modules, including CEIR and TAFCOP, offering a comprehensive range of services.
The CEIR module facilitates the tracing and blocking of lost or stolen mobile devices across all telecom operators in India. If a blocked mobile phone is detected in use, it can be traced, leading to potential recovery. Once found, the phone can be unblocked for normal usage by the rightful owner.
The TAFCOP module enables mobile subscribers to monitor the number of mobile connections associated with their name. It also provides an avenue to report any unnecessary or unauthorized associations, further enhancing users’ security and control.
