Breaking Barriers: Captain Deeksha Becomes 1st Female Officer to Join Special Forces

Captain Deeksha C. Mudadevannanavar has made history by becoming the Indian Army’s first female officer to be commissioned into the Parachute Regiment, the Indian Army’s top special forces unit. Let’s go over her journey in more detail.

Who is Captain Deeksha?

Captain Deeksha is a native of Davangere in Karnataka and was commissioned into the MH Golconda of the Indian Army through the Short Service Commission (SSC) in October 2019. She is a member of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and underwent MOBC training at the Army Medical Corps Center in Lucknow after receiving her commission.

Captain Deeksha’s Role in Special Forces

As a medical doctor in the Indian Army, Captain Deeksha has been posted as a Medical Officer with a Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) battalion. She has trained with special forces troops and has undergone rigorous training with special forces operatives. She is trained to provide medical assistance to troops during special operations.

Captain Deeksha’s Reason for Joining the Special Forces

Captain Deeksha’s journey to become a part of the Special Forces wasn’t easy. She was rejected twice when she attempted to enlist in the Parachute Regiment due to inadequate physical capabilities. Colonel Shivesh Singh, her commanding officer, inspired her to try again.

Despite being injured during her second attempt, Captain Deeksha persevered and eventually made it through the Paratrooper selection process. In December 2022, she was chosen for Special Forces, making her the first female officer to do so.

Captain Deeksha’s Motivation to Join the Army

In an exclusive interview with Republic, Captain Deeksha explained that her desire to pursue a challenging and unique profession was what drove her to enlist in the Indian Army. She has always wanted a career that would allow her to contribute to society, and her experience in the NCC strengthened her resolve to serve her country.

Conclusion

Captain Deeksha’s achievement is a testament to the fact that gender is no barrier to success in the Indian Army. Her journey serves as an inspiration to young girls who aspire to join the armed forces and shows that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.
