WhatsApp chatbot ‘Bal Mitra’ launched for children, know the children and their rights

The Delhi Commission for the Protection of Child Rights launched its ‘Bal Mitra’ WhatsApp chatbot to enable two-way communication between people and the child rights panel. According to a government statement, the chatbot will improve interactions between citizens and the commission.

The chatbot’s features include, among others, complaint registration, searching for information and tracking complaint status, and seeking admissions information. The chatbot aims to provide accurate information about children and their rights while maintaining the confidentiality of information reported to it.

” The DCPCR’s Chatbot ‘Bal Mitra’ is an important initiative to make governance more accessible to citizens. This will be a reliable source of information about children and their rights,” said Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

Along with child rights, this chatbot will advise people, particularly parents, on admissions and education for their children, according to Sisodia.
Previously, DCPCR launched the ‘Early Warning System,’ which assisted the education department in returning over 50,000 students to school and lowering the dropout rate.

How the chatbot ‘Bal Mitra’ works

DCPCR chairperson Anurag Kundu explained how the chatbot works. He said that it is an automated responsive application that will assist in information disbursements, help people register complaints, and routine communication with complainants, among other things.
Those who are unable to physically access the commission or contact the helpline will be able to register complaints/seek information through this. He went on to say that the commission hopes to reimagine governance by putting children’s and citizens’ convenience first.
Kundu also stated that the panel has undertaken a number of technological initiatives, such as the digitization of physical files and the dissemination of child rights-related information via various digital platforms. “Through all of these interventions, the commission hopes to be fully digitized in the near future,” he said.
