Preparations have been started for Republic Day 2023. This year, for the first time, women are also going to participate in the BSF camel riding squad in the Republic Day 2023 parade. In the camel riding contingent of the Border Security Force (BSF), women guards will take part in the parade along with male jawans. Mahila Praharis in a very special royal dress will be part of the BSF camel rider squad.
The famous BSF Camel Contingent has been a part of the Republic Day celebrations since 1976.
The uniform has been designed by designer Raghavendra Rathore
The uniform for the women Praharis represents many treasured craft forms of India. Which are manufactured in different parts of the country and assembled in-house at Raghavendra Rathore's Jodhpur studio. Sartorial and cultural elements from the history of Rajasthan have been incorporated in the design of the uniform of women Praharis for the BSF Camel Contingent brand. While designing the dress for BSF women, reflect the functionality, privilege and honor of wearing one of the national forces uniform.
The dress is made from 400 years old Danka technique
The attire of the women Praharis echoes the iconic RRJ Jodhpuri bandhgala which is the epitome of stately, classic and elegance. The textured fabric with hand crafted Zardozi work for various trims from Banaras is made in the 400 year old Danka technique. Apart from this, the uniform of the women Praharis has been styled with an attractive pagh. The uniform features a turban which is inspired by the heritage pagh of the Mewar region of Rajasthan.
For the first time women will be seen in the camel rider squad
Considered a symbol of prestige and honor in Mewar, the Pagh is an important part of the cultural attire of the people of Rajasthan. Significantly, the camel squad of BSF has been enhancing the dignity of Republic Day celebrations since 1976. For the first time, the first women contingent of BSF will be seen riding camels along with their male counterparts.
