Railway employees to get productivity linked bonus

The Union Cabinet, presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the payment of productivity linked bonuses (PLB) to railway employees for the fiscal year 2021-22, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur announced.

PLB is paid to eligible railway employees each year before the Dussehra/Puja holidays. In 2022, approximately 11.27 lakh non-gazetted Railway employees received PLB equivalent to 78 days’ wages.

Amount payable to eligible railway employee

The maximum amount payable per eligible railway employee is Rs 17,951 for 78 days. The above amount was paid to various categories, including track maintainers, drivers and guards, station masters, supervisors, technicians, technician helpers, controllers, pointsmen, ministerial staff, and other group ‘C’ staff.

The monetary cost is estimated to be Rs 1,832.09 crore. According to a government statement, the above decision for PLB payment was made despite the government’s adverse financial situation caused by post-Covid challenges.

According to the report, the actual number of PLB days paid exceeds the days calculated using defined formulae.

The payment of PLB serves as an incentive for railway employees to work toward improving the performance of the railways, according to the statement.
