US doctor became an inspiration, donated all her assets for children’s hospital



An Indian ancestry who lives in America, but the roots are still Indian. Doctor Uma, who shifted to America after studying in Andhra Pradesh, now wants to build a children’s hospital. She has decided to donate 20 crores saved during her lifetime for the Children’s Hospital. She served as an inspiration for a few additional contributors, who gave to GGH.

Dr. Uma Devi Gavini wants to build a hospital in her home state. When State Health Minister V Rajni performed Bhoomi Pujan for the hospital, Dr. Uma Gavini was being discussed among all.

Donated all the money saved in the entire life

In America, people consult Dr. Uma Devi Gavini for problems related to immunity and allergies. Dr. Uma Devi Gavini shifted to America after completing her MBBS from Andhra Pradesh 58 years ago. Bhoomi puja for the construction of Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) took place in the premises of Guntur Government General Hospital (GGH) on Friday. Dr. Uma donated an amount of 20 crores for this hospital. The thing is more than crores of donations that Dr. Uma donated all the money saved in her entire life for the children’s hospital, without holding a single dollar in her palm on behalf of herself and her husband.

Actually, the hospital being built in Guntur with the help of American female doctor is in the headlines. Dr. Uma Devi Gavini has donated her entire life savings to make her dream of building a hospital a reality. Dr Uma, a resident of Guntur, did her MBBS from Guntur Medical College in the year 1965.

Facilities in the hospital

According to the report, the children’s hospital for which Dr. Uma has donated 20 crores will be constructed in the Guntur Government General Hospital (GGH) premises in an area of 2.69 lakh square feet at an estimated cost of 86.80 crores.

Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, the hospital will have five storeys. This 597-bed hospital will have 300 beds in the maternity ward. There will be 200 beds in Child Care Unit, 27 in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), 30 beds in SICU and 40 beds in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). 30 classrooms and an assembly hall with a capacity of 300 people will also be built in the hospital building.

Hospital will be named after her husband

The members of GMCANA proposed to name the hospital after Dr. Uma to honor her valuable contribution, but she politely declined. Dr Bala said that the decision was taken to name the hospital after Dr. Kanuri Ramachandra, the late husband of Dr. Uma. The project of GMCANA was started eight years back i.e. in 2014 to address the problems faced by pregnant women in GGH due to lack of beds and infrastructure.

Many other doctors served as inspiration for Dr. Uma’s donation. Dr Surapaneni Krishnaprasad pledged Rs 8 crore, and a couple named Thella Nalini and Venkat also pledged Rs 8 crore. Dr. Movva Venkateshwarlu has announced a donation of Rs 20 crore. A few former students have also declared their intent to contribute. The woman and child welfare department will receive a contribution of Rs 86 crore.
