As Uttar Pradesh prepares to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India's independence on August 15, the state plans to drape the tricolour across 4.26 crore houses and 50 lakh government and non-government offices.

As part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' mission to commemorate Amrit Mahotsava, the government has already produced 3.86 crore tricolours against a target of 4.76 crores.

Govt's MSME department procured two crore flags

The state government's MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) department has procured two crore flags via the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal, while over 20,000 NGOs and private sewing units are working around the clock to produce approximately 1.15 crore flags.

Furthermore, 2.26 crore flags are to be produced at the district level, with women's self-help groups completing the production of more than 96 lakh flags.

Similarly, NGOs and the UP Khadi and Village Industries Board have produced 36.4 lakh tricolours, while private sewing units have produced over 35.3 lakh flags. In addition, an order for 50 lakh Khadi flags for
government and non-government organisations has been completed.

Almost every entity in UP is involved in making tricolours, despite the enormous responsibility of producing over 4.76 crore flags within the prescribed deadline.

Meanwhile, the Union government has changed the country’s flag code to allow tricolour to fly both in the daytime and at night now. Polyester flags can also be produced by machines.
