Somnath Railway Station will redevelop to resemble Somnath Jyotirlinga Temple



The Indian Railways is on a mission to beautify and redevelop several train stations, with a particular emphasis on improving passenger amenities. G Krishna Reddy, Union Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Development of India’s North Eastern Region, recently announced that the Somnath Railway Station, located near the famous Somnath temple near Veraval town in Gir Somnath district, will be redeveloped using the architectural design of the Shree Somnath Jyotirlinga Temple.

According to a report, the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) has started the process of upgrading the station at an estimated cost of around Rs 134 Cr. The project will be carried out on a construction-
engineering-procurement basis.

According to an official statement issued by the RLDA, the proposed development of the railway station will not only increase the area’s tourism potential but will also improve passengers’ travel experiences.

The station has two platforms and is part of the Western Railway’s Bhavnagar division. The proposed railway station development will include improvements to its facilities such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and civil work. It will also have a building facade that highlights the temple’s local heritage. Arrival and departure lounges will be separated in the upgraded station.

The station’s construction will be carried out through the use of energy-efficient building technology. It is expected that the entire project will be complete in two years.

The Shree Somnath Trust manages and maintains the Somnath temple, one of the country’s 12 Jyotirlingams. Its trustees include top officials such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The structure of the temple is currently being gold-plated.

Other railway stations that are undergoing makeover are Belgavi station in Karnataka, Prayagraj Jn Railway Station and Ayodhya Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh, Nagpur Jn Railway Station in Maharashtra, Vishakhapatnam Railway station and Nellore station in Andhra Pradesh, Sabarmati Passenger hub in Gujarat, Ludhiana Junction in Punjab, Gandhinagar-Jaipur Railway Station in Rajasthan, Jabalpur Station in Madhya Pradesh, Muzaffarpur station in Bihar.
