The country's economic platform i.e. the digital economy run by mobile apps, is rapidly gaining momentum. Platforms like Swiggy, Rapido, Urban Company are part of this economy. According to the NITI Aayog report, till 2010 there were less than 10 such platforms in the country but today there are more than 60. More than 70% of the women associated with this platform in the country are married. Most of the women are earning up to 75 thousand rupees a month by working for 40 hours a week.

More women are joining these platforms after marriage

According to the survey, most of the women are associated with platforms like Urban Company, Swiggy, Ola and Sakha Cab. There are many 11-12th pass outs that joined platform jobs after marriage to support their family. They work according to their convenience. Earning from these jobs is the primary income for 42% of women.

2.4 crore jobs will be created through apps in next 4 years

About 33 lakh people are getting employment from the platform economy in the country. This figure is more than the jobs offered by Tata Consultancy Services (5 lakh) in Railways (12 lakhs). Between 2010-2018, online cab services Ola and Uber alone gave more than 22 lakh jobs in the country. By 2020, 5 lakh people were connected to Rapido. Food delivery service Zomato was employing 1.61 lakh people and Swiggy 1.50 lakh people were getting employment as delivery partners. According to the NITI Aayog report, jobs related to the platform economy are estimated to reach 24 million in the coming 3-4 years.

Currently only 2% of women in the platform economy workforce

According to the Ola Mobility Institute report, only 2% of the platform economy workforces of 40 lakh are women. To increase this, the commission has suggested tax exemptions and startup grants to companies.
