ISRO’s decision to open up its services and partnerships to the private sector has been a success, according to Union Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh, with 55 registered startup proposals approved in the last two years.

According to the Press Information Bureau, Dr. Singh said at a joint meeting for science ministries and departments that he expects at least nine more proposals to be completed in 2022-23.

What is a space startup?

Its goal is to make products and services developed by India’s space program available to customers all over the world. It’s also supposed to help the Indian space industry grow faster by transferring technology, providing small satellite launch services, and collaborating on satellite and rocket manufacturing.

Benefits of space startup

Overcoming the difficulties of working in space has resulted in numerous technological and scientific breakthroughs that have benefited society on Earth in areas such as health and medicine, transportation, public safety, consumer goods, energy and environment, information technology, and industrial productivity.

55 proposals have been approved

The 55 proposals that have been approved are spread across ISRO’s various space-related functions: Satellites are mentioned 29 times, space applications and products are mentioned 10 times, launch vehicles or rockets are mentioned 8 times, and ground systems and research are mentioned 8 times.

He also announced that 75 student satellites will be launched this year to coincide with India’s 75th anniversary of independence, AzadiKaAmritMahotsav.

Given ISRO’s and the Department of Space’s history of working alone, Dr. Singh believes the strong public-private partnership represents significant and ground-breaking progress. According to him, the “unlocking” of the space sector, which began two years ago with the opening of partnerships, is on track.
