In light of Sri Lanka's economic crisis, Tamil Nadu health minister Ma Subramanian announced on Sunday that 137 types of medical supplies worth Rs 28 crore will be sent to the country in the coming days. The medical supplies sent to Sri Lanka were inspected by Subramanian and Health Secretary Radhakrishnan.

"The Health Department will provide 137 types of medical supplies worth 28 crores to Sri Lanka in a couple of days,” Health Minister

At the moment, the first shipment of medical supplies worth Rs. 8 crore is being sent to Sri Lanka. "These medicines are being sent on humaniarian grounds to reach the affected people in Sri Lanka, whether Sinhalese or Tamils," Subramanian explained.

MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, had earlier moved a resolution in the state Assembly urging the Central government to allow the state government to send essential commodities to Sri Lanka, including rice, pulses, dairy products, and medicines, amid the ongoing economic crisis.

"However, no clear response has been received from the government of India in this regard," his resolution stated. As a result, this august House resolves to urge the Indian government to positively consider the Tamil Nadu government's request to send food and other essential commodities, including life-saving medicines, to the people of Sri Lanka, who are suffering greatly."

"On a humanitarian basis, we should provide supporting hands to them," CM MK Stalin said.

People are queuing for hours to get gasoline and diesel. There is a nationwide power outage, and public transportation is also affected. Tamils are in distress. Pesticide, which was once sold for 1200 rupees, is now being sold for 32,000 rupees in Jaffna estates."

According to sources, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin discussed the economic situation in Sri Lanka with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 31 and proposed sending relief materials, including food and medicines, from the state to Sri Lanka.
