Boris Johnson flanked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, praised India on Friday for being the world's pharmacy, exclaiming excitedly: "I have the Indian jab (COVID19 vaccine) in my arm, and it has helped me. Many thanks to India."

"Nation-first, India-first"

Johnson was the first British Prime Minister to visit the Sabarmati Ashram. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing a "nation-first, India-first" approach to decision-making, stated that there can be no compromise on the country's unity and integrity, and that even decisions at the local level should be based on this criterion. Modi's remarks to civil servants on the 15th Civil Services Day came against the backdrop of several communal incidents in the country in recent months.

He also expressed gratitude to India for the warm welcome: "I'd like to thank my friend Prime Minister Narendra Modi... my khaas dost (special friend). We've had an incredible two days in India. I became the first conservative prime minister to visit Narendra's birthplace, Gujarat. It is also the ancestral home to nearly half of all British Indians. I had a fantastic reception. I was moved to the world of Sachin Tendulkar. My face was surrounded by large cutouts of Amitabh Bachchan. It was incredible."

The relationship between India and the United Kingdom has never been stronger, the British Prime Minister said earlier in the day as he was welcomed by Prime Minister Modi at the President's residence.
