COLLEGE ADMISSIONS WILL BE DRIVEN BY THE COMMON ENTRANCE TEST, NOT CLASS 12 GRADES

by Juhi Tripathi

Date & Time: Mar 25, 2022 9:00 AM

Read Time: 2 minute

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • The National Testing Agency (NTA) will administer this exam in the first week of July
  • The application window for this exam will be open in the first week of April.
  • Following the completion of the tests, the NTA will compile a merit list from which admissions will be granted. There will be no group therapy sessions.

The Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) or the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is a computerized entrance exam used to gain admission to 45 central universities across the country. The candidate's Class 12 grades will be irrelevant in this exam. Universities can only utilize the Class 12 grades as a factor for admission.

High cut-off marks

A recent trend of high cut-off marks in central universities, such as the Delhi university's 100% cut-offs, would be discontinued, as Class 12 results will no longer be a factor in gaining admission to the central universities.

High cut-offs were popular because CISCE, CBSE, and several state boards use varied techniques of evaluating students, making it unfair for students applying to central universities, which use a variety of evaluation patterns.

This exam's paper layout

This exam will be a computer-based MCQ-based test (CBT). The standards for the questions will be based on the NCERT textbooks. For wrong replies, negative markings will be applied.

There will be three components to this test:

The language test will be under Section A, and students will have to choose one of the 13 languages. Section B will consist of a domain-specific test in which candidates must choose six of the 27 domains. Section C has two sub-sections that are optional. The first sub-part will assess general ability, while the second will be a test of 19 unusual languages not covered in section A.

Languages available in Section A

The languages available are Bengali, Marathi, Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Telugu, Urdu, Malayalam, Punjabi, Assamese, English, and Odia.
