Empowered Women Aiding Agricultural Development

Introduction

The term ‘women empowerment’ gained popularity in the past few decades which means equality between both women and men and that the voice and opinion of women matter. A woman can be called empowered only when she is given equal opportunities in every sector be it at work or be it at home. When she has an equal right as a man to voice her opinion and make decisions. A woman is empowered when she is respected by others and is treated as an equal.

Not only in India but women all around the globe have been looked down upon for centuries. From their right to education to their right to wear whatever they wish to, society had made the decisions and imposed them on them. From choosing when and with whom they would settle in life to what their future should look like, society has snatched all their liberty of making decisions from them.

Time Bringing the Right Changes

With time changing and people being more broad-minded, accepting, and respectful towards every individual, the equality towards women have been seen to be rising and women getting equal opportunities and respect in every sector. Their potential to achieve as much as men and sometimes even more now does not go unnoticed and they are considered for every job role in society. Women who were never let to step outside alone are now flying aircraft and serving the national armed forces. They are working in every sector and taking them to new heights with their intelligence and hard work. Even pay parity is gradually coming into play as women previously got paid less than their male colleagues for the same job.

Role of Women in India’s Key Sector

The agricultural sector has always been one of India’s key sources of global domination being one of the highest producers of several food and cash crops. Women in villages where agriculture is mostly practiced saw the road to development quite late than the urban areas but even then, they have always played a key role in farming and different steps of food processing. Recognizing their potential and their key role in agriculture now women-led developments are taking place in this sector as well.

With limited access to education, training programs, technology, land, and financing, the growth of women has always been restricted in the sector. When we talk about women-led development in the agricultural sector, it refers to equal pay and access to all the amenities that are required to acquire a successful and adequate rate of crop production. Making them well-equipped with all the necessities and addressing their opinions and concerns takes the idea of women-led developments in the agricultural sector a major boost by letting them take decisions of their own.

Women have always been known for running a household with perfection. So, their involvement in the food sector can lead to improvement in the use of more effective and efficient resources thus increasing production and better nutritional outcomes.

Most importantly, the inclusion of women in agriculture will lead to their employment, and with a steady source of income, poverty can successfully be tackled along with boosting the national economy.

Hence, the government, private sector, and organizations must work together to provide equal access and opportunities to bring change and innovation to agricultural prosperity in India.11:45 AM
