About Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan (Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan)

The Indian government started the Swachh Bharat Mission, also known as the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or Clean India Mission, in 2014 to eliminate open defecation and enhance solid waste management across the country.

The first phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission lasted through October 2019. The first phase’s goals included behaviour change and raising awareness about sanitation methods, as well as the elimination of manual scavenging and the expansion of local capacity.

The second phase, which will run from 2020 to 2025, will consolidate the first phase’s efforts. The second phase of the mission is to improve solid and liquid waste management, maintain open defecation-free status, and improve the lives of sanitation employees.
