Law to solve parking problems, Rs 500 will be rewarded to person sending pics of wrongly parked vehicle

According to Nitin Gadkari, union road transport and highways minister, a person who sends a photograph of a wrongly parked vehicle may soon receive a reward of Rs 500 if the fine is Rs 1,000.

Addressing an event here, Gadkari, known for his candid views, stated that he is considering legislation to curb the practise of wrongly parked vehicles on streets, which frequently causes road congestion.

Rs 500 will be awarded

“I intend to introduce legislation under which a person who sends a photograph of a wrongly parked vehicle will receive Rs 500 if the total fine is Rs 1,000. The parking issue will then be resolved” he said.

The minister expressed regret that people do not create parking spaces for their vehicles and instead park them on the road, he said.

In a lighter vein, he said, “My cook in Nagpur also owns two second hand vehicles. Now, a family of four members has six vehicles. It appears that Delhiites are lucky people as we have made road for parking of their vehicles. Nobody makes parking spaces, most of them park their vehicles on streets”.

He claimed that his house in Nagpur has parking space for 12 cars and he does not park on the road at all. Further, the minister said that public transport using electric vehicles is essential for India. “Even sanitation workers have cars in the US… Soon it seems India will also have that situation. Everyone is buying cars,” he added.
