Farmers were educated on the value of water conservation in the current environment on July 28 at a session organised at the P.K.R. Arts College for Women in Gobichettipalayam (Tamil Nadu). Under the auspices of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, ICAR KVK MYRADA arranged the Kisan Mela with the slogan “Catch the rain, where it falls, and when it falls.”
The session was introduced by P. Alagesan, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, while N.R. Nagaraj, Chairman of Gobichettipalayam Municipality, spoke about the significance of water conservation in the current climate.

Kumerasan, and the college’s principal, N. Ezhili, both spoke.
The importance of micro irrigation systems and water conservation techniques was discussed by Valliyammai, Professor of Water Technology Centre, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. G. Subramanian, Assistant Engineer, Agricultural Engineering Department, highlighted the water conservation schemes available.
College students competed in speech and poster contests on community water body management, water conservation, and rainwater collection. Certificates were given to the winners. An exposition on farming, drip irrigation, and drone technology was hosted by KVK. A demonstration of a drone spraying fertiliser was also done during the presentation.
Reason why water conservation is important
For two reasons, water conservation is important. First off, there is a global water deficit that is being made worse by climate change. Second, water is essential to our survival. Our reliance on water and the deteriorating water crises are two fundamental problems of our day.
There is still work to be done on strengthening risk assessments and mitigation measures, despite the fact that, in my perspective, agricultural industry stakeholders are becoming more conscious of the water risks in their portfolios. Regulatory organisations and the sector as a whole are disclosing more information about water and other supply chain issues in agriculture. To maintain productivity, profitability, and sustainability, comprehensive analysis and mitigation methods are needed for water security.
