To commemorate the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Pingali Venkayya on August 2, PM Modi urged people to change their profile picture to the Indian national flag and hoist flags at their homes from August 2 to August 15. The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, which is being held this year to commemorate India’s 75th anniversary of independence.
How to participate in Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign
Those with social media accounts on multiple platforms can participate by changing their profile pictures to the tricolour. Furthermore, as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, citizens are required to hoist the national flag in accordance with the Flag Code of India. The Flag Code is a set of rules and regulations devised by the government that govern the manufacture, hosting, and disposal of the national flag as needed. It also discusses the flag’s orientation, size, and base material. The code lists several violations that can result in a fine or imprisonment.
The National flag, for example, should not be unfurled from a single masthead, touch the floor, be fastened in a way that may damage it, or be displayed inverted, according to the Flag Code of 2002. Other restrictions include using the national flag as a form of drapery or printing it on handkerchiefs or any other dress material.
Steps and measures to ensure the campaign’s success
Several states have taken steps and measures to ensure the campaign’s success. The state government of Maharashtra has directed state cooperation departments to ensure that every housing society hoists the flag on Independence Day. All government and semi-government buildings have received the same treatment. The city of Agra in Uttar Pradesh claims that on the 75th anniversary of India’s independence,
20 crore households will raise the national flag.
Assam’s state government has pledged to produce 80 lakh tri-color flags, which will be distributed to households. The government has delegated manufacturing to a textile industry in Bongaigaon, which is working around the clock to complete the mission.
