Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Indian Air Force Heritage Centre, the first of its kind in India, in Chandigarh’s Sector 18 on May 8. The Indian Air Force Heritage Centre is a museum that showcases the rich history and legacy of the Indian Air Force. The 17,000 sqft centre is housed in the Government Press Building and showcases the IAF’s contribution in various wars.

The Indian Air Force Heritage Centre is a must-visit destination for aviation enthusiasts and history buffs. The Centre boasts of five vintage aircraft, including the first IAF-made patent aircraft, the Air Force ‘Kanpur-1 Vintage Prototype Aircraft’. Visitors can experience cockpit exposure and flight simulators, providing an immersive experience of India’s aviation legacy.
A Visual Treat for Aviation Enthusiasts
The Heritage Centre features a one-foot wall adorned with 58 vintage and retired aircraft pictures, serving as a visual treat for aviation enthusiasts. The Centre will also provide information about various rescue operations undertaken by the IAF throughout India and the world. Projectors will showcase the initiatives undertaken by the Air Force Family Welfare Association for the benefit of the families of air warriors at the station, regional, and central levels.
