This groundbreaking facility, built at a cost of Dh4 billion, showcases advanced technologies with no adverse environmental impact.
Sustainable Infrastructure and Clean Energy
Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai is steadfastly advancing towards a green economy and becoming one of the world’s most sustainable cities. The Waste to Energy Centre in Warsan reflects Dubai’s commitment to a sustainable future, aligning with its ambitious economic development programs and highest standards of sustainability and environmental preservation.
Revolutionary Waste Conversion Operations
Sheikh Hamdan witnessed the Waste to Energy Centre’s first waste-to-energy conversion operations, employing a sophisticated process that leaves no environmental footprint. Currently, two out of the five operational lines process approximately 2,300 tonnes of solid waste daily. The innovative technique utilizes steam pressure to generate rotational energy, powering the generator and producing electricity. The facility currently generates about 80 MWh of renewable energy, with plans to expand to 220 MWh upon the completion of the second phase.
Environmental Sustainability
Dubai’s Waste-to-Energy Centre in Warsan is a testament to its commitment to enhancing environmental sustainability and mitigating climate change. The facility aims to reduce carbon emissions by diverting waste from landfills, contributing to Dubai’s clean energy targets and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. By efficiently converting waste into energy, the Centre aligns with Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and positions the city as a global clean energy and green economy hub.
Cutting-Edge Technologies for a Sustainable Future
The Waste to Energy Centre in Warsan is the result of collaboration between five local and international private sector companies, including Dubai Holding, Dubai Holding, Itoshu, Hitachi Zosen Innova, and Besix Group. Implementing the latest Japanese and Swiss technologies in waste management, the Centre sets new benchmarks for sustainable waste treatment. With comprehensive measures to eliminate odours and advanced emission treatment systems, the facility ensures environmentally friendly waste management practices.
