THE ICCR WILL HOST A THREE-DAY INDIAN CRAFTS FAIR, IN DELHI

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) is hosting a crafts exhibition and fair in Delhi with the goal of increasing awareness of traditional Indian crafts among diplomatic community.

Overview:

  • This arts and crafts festival is part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) celebrations. This fair, titled ‘Coalescence: Craft-Culture-Community-Climate,’ will be hosted at Bikaner House.
  • The fair will be inaugurated on February 23rd by Meenakshi Lekhi, the Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs, in the presence of ICCR president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe.
  • This three-day show will offer an insight into India’s cultural history as well as artisan practices that help to maintain the planet’s natural balance. Jaya Jaitly of Dastkari Haat Samiti coordinated the event.
  • 22 craftsmen from 11 states will display textiles, crafts, cosmetics aromatics, traditional and folk art, and recycled products.
  • This fair is being held in order to emphasize not only India’s dance and music as part of the country’s culture, but also other traditions such as crafts, cuisine, and literature.

How are the products that will be displayed made?

All of the products on display are made from organic and natural materials and produced in non-polluting ways.
As a result, the international community will be able to see how the country’s traditional culture can cope with the challenges posed by climate change.

Upcoming events of ICCR

The ICCR has a slew of forthcoming activities in the works for the remainder of the year, including film screenings, language workshops, and academic-related initiatives. A workshop on “Indian Cinema and Soft Power” will be held in collaboration with FTII-Pune.

The ICCR also intends to collaborate with the Foreign Language Institute in Hyderabad to develop courses to teach languages from countries such as Kazakhstan and Indonesia in India.
