Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the creation of five new districts in Ladakh: Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang.

The Modi government is committed to creating abundant opportunities for the people of Ladakh," said Amit Shah. "These new districts will bring governance closer to the people.

Ladakh was granted Union Territory status after the revocation of Article 370 in 2019. This move bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two UTs: J&K and Ladakh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the people of Ladakh, stating that the new districts would ensure better governance and prosperity.

Before this, Ladakh had two districts: Leh and Kargil. With the new additions, the total number of districts is now seven.

The creation of these new districts is a significant step towards improving governance and bringing services closer to the people of Ladakh.
