Patna to Host G20 Summit on June 22-23, Delegates to Visit Bihar Museum

Patna is preparing to host a two-day G20 summit this month, with delegates expected to visit the new Bihar Museum in the state capital on June 21. The summit, specifically the Labour Engagement Group meeting, will bring together approximately 150 delegates on June 22-23. Patna, known for its historical significance as the ancient capital of Pataliputra, will welcome the delegates in grandeur, providing them with a glimpse into the city’s rich cultural heritage.

Cultural Visit to Bihar Museum Planned

As part of the pre-summit activities, the delegates will have the opportunity to explore the Bihar Museum on the evening of June 21. The Bihar Museum, located on Bailey Road, houses a vast collection of historic artifacts, including the famous Didarganj Yakshi (Chauri-bearer). The delegates will have the chance to witness relics dating from 1764 to the present, as well as rare paintings and a 200-million-year-old fossilized tree trunk. The visit to the museum will offer a captivating experience, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Bihar.

Gala Dinner and Cultural Programmes

The inaugural meeting of the G20 summit will take place on June 22 at the Samrat Ashok Convention Centre near Gandhi Maidan. On the same day, the delegates will be treated to a gala dinner and cultural programs at the Bapu Sabhagar, which is situated within the same premises as the convention center. These events will provide an opportunity for cultural exchange and foster a deeper understanding among the delegates.

Additional Meetings and Limited Cultural Interactions

On June 23, further meetings will be held in Patna as part of the G20 summit. However, due to a revised itinerary, the delegates’ cultural interactions will now be limited to Patna itself. Officials have mentioned the possibility of a visit to the Sikh temple, Patna Sahib, in addition to the planned visit to the Bihar Museum. The Bihar Art and Culture
Department has been designated as the nodal agency for the G20 event, ensuring that the delegates have a memorable and enjoyable experience during their stay in Patna.

Highlighting Heritage Sites and City Decorations

The G20 summit in Patna was originally scheduled for March but was rescheduled to June. As part of India’s year-long presidency of the G20, more than 200 meetings will be convened at 55 locations throughout the country, emphasizing both metropolitan areas and smaller cities with historical and scenic beauty. Patna’s selection as the host city aims to shine a spotlight on its heritage sites, allowing the delegates to appreciate the city’s historical significance.

With preparations well underway, the city of Patna is adorning itself with G20-themed banners and decorations, ready to welcome the delegates to a successful and culturally immersive summit.
