Union Minister of Steel, Ram Chandra Prasad Singh on 15 June inaugurated India's first six lane 1 km road made by using steel slag at Gujarat's Surat to connect the port with the city.

A road made of steel trash has been built in the Hazira Industrial Area in Surat, Gujarat, as part of the first such project of research. The new steel road is believed to be much more durable than the traditional ones.
