Chittorgarh Fort is one of the most magnificent forts in Indian history. The magnificent structure is a testament to the glory of Rajasthan’s former rulers.

Historical Significance

Chittorgarh Fort, about 100 kilometres from Udaipur, is a popular tourist destination in Rajasthan. The Rajputana virtues of pride, loyalty, and sacrifice have been witnessed at the Chittorgarh Fort.

Queen Padmini’s supreme sacrifice and valour are still celebrated today. Every year, Chittorgarh hosts a Jauhar Mela to commemorate Queen Padmini’s sacrifice and to celebrate Rajputana valour.

The Kirti Stambh, Vijay Stambh, Rani Padmini’s Palace, Gaumukh Reservoir, and Rana Kumbha’s Palace are the main attractions of Chittorgarh Fort. Queen Padmini is said to have committed jauhar in one of 
Rana Kumbha’s Palace’s underground cellars.

The two imposing towers of Chittorgarh Fort, Kirti Stambh and Vijay Stambh, are also significant. Kirti Stambh, or the Tower of Fame, was built in the 12th century and is dedicated to Adinath Ji, the first Jain Tirthankara. The Tower of Victory, also known as Vijay Stambh, represents Rajput gallantry and honour.

Even after centuries, Chittorgarh Fort hasn’t ceased to amaze visitors due to its glorious history and breathtaking architecture.
