India is all set to host the IOC session for the second time in its history. After 40 years of wait, India has been given the opportunity to host an International Olympic Committee session in 2023. The last IOC session in India was held in 1983 in New Delhi.
The event will be held at the brand new Jio World Convention Centre, which is state-of-the-art. Mumbai won an unprecedented 99 percent of the votes cast in favor of its bid from the delegates involved in the process, with 75 members approving its candidacy during the session held in Beijing.

India wins bid to host 2023 IOC session

During the 139th IOC Session in Beijing, China, India earned the privilege to host the 2023 International Olympic Committee (IOC) session in Mumbai in an unopposed race. The Indian delegation included Abhinav Bindra, the country's first individual Olympic gold medalist (Beijing 2008, shooting), IOC Member Nita Ambani, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Narinder Batra, and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur. They gave the presentation to IOC members at the 139th IOC Session, which is taking place in Beijing concurrently with the Winter Olympics.

IOC session

An IOC session is the yearly assembly of the IOC's members, who are divided into 101 voting members and 45 honorary members. It discusses and makes decisions on the important activities of the worldwide Olympic movement, such as the election of IOC members and office bearers, the approval or change of the Olympic Charter, and the selection of the Olympic host city.

Marks the beginning of a new era in Indian sport

IOA President Narinder Batra stated upon the successful conclusion of the bidding process: "I appreciate Mrs. Nita Ambani for her vision and leadership, as well as all of my IOC Member colleagues for their support; I hope to see you all in Mumbai next year. This marks the beginning of a new era in Indian sport, one that includes the long-term objective of hosting the Olympic Games in India."

A historic moment

"A historic moment as the International Olympic Committee Session is coming to India in 2023! Indian sport has made giant strides in recent years. Excited and proud to have been a part of the Indian delegation for this landmark occasion. " Anurag Thakur tweeted.
