A new Skill and Entrepreneurship Development University is being planned in the Kalyana-Karnataka region, according to Transport Minister B Sriramulu.

Facts to Remember

The Skill Development University is being developed for the region's inclusive development. This institution will be established because new technology must be utilized in all fields, and backward regions require result-oriented projects. In order to equip new generations and teenagers with the most up-to-date abilities, a skill development university is urgently needed in the region.

Reservation for an 8% seat

According to the minister, there is a policy of reserving 8% of seats in recruitment and education institutions across Karnataka for candidates from the Kalyana-Karnataka region. However, this rule is not strictly followed. As a result, the government would take steps to ensure that it is faithfully implemented. Officials have been given a month to provide information on vacant positions and personnel who are eligible for promotion under the region's special status.

Region of Kalyana-Karnataka

Previously, the Kalyana–Karnataka Region was known as the Hyderabad–Karnataka Region. This region lies in Karnataka, which was once part of the Nizams' Hyderabad Kingdom and British India's Madras presidency. It included the Hyderabad regions of Bidar, Raichur, Yadgir, Kalaburagi, and Koppal, as well as the Madras province's Bellary and Vijayanagara, which are now part of the state of Karnataka. This region is India's second-largest dry region. Kalaburagi is the region's largest city. Some sections of Hyderabad State were included into the State of Karnataka after it was officially amalgamated into India in 1948. In 2019, the Hyderabad-Karnataka region was renamed Kalyana-Karnataka.
