First Textile Parcel Special Train
In 2021, the first ‘textile parcel’ special train was launched. It consisted of 25 new modified freight wagons that were specially designed to transport textiles from Gujarat to Bihar. This effort aims to promote Surat’s textile sector by providing a faster, more cost-effective, and safer route of transportation.
New Modified Goods Wagons
For the first time at Udhna New Goods Shed, textile traffic was loaded in Customised New Modified Goods (NMG). Twenty-five NMG waggons made up the textile parcel special train.
Significance of the textile trains
Textile trains are important for the Surat textile market because they are a cost-effective, speedier, and safer form of transportation. This move has given the company the opportunity to tap into the textile market’s enormous potential. It will serve the transportation demands of Surat City’s textile industry godown hubs.
How are NMG wagons traffic managed?
To manage such traffic for NMG waggons loading, the Western Railways has made four terminals available in the Mumbai division, namely Chalthan, Gangadhara, Surat, and Udhna New Goods Shed.
