Karnataka government will no longer accept applications for Rajyotsava Awards 

From 2023, the Karnataka government will no longer accept applications for Rajyotsava Awards. Rather, a panel will be form to select the qualified candidates. The state government is following the federal government’s lead. The Padma winners are chosen solely by the national government. The candidates have not submitted any applications.

What are Karnataka Rajyotsava Awards?

Rajyotsava Prahasti is another name for the award. It is the state’s second highest civilian honour. On November 1, the state administration will present it. The prize includes a cash prize of one lakh rupees as well as a gold medal (of 20 grams). It was known as the Mysore State Award from 1966 to 1972. The awards are given to persons who have made significant contributions to medicine, athletics, science, the arts, industry, education, public affairs, and social service.

Why is it that the awards are given out on November 1st?

November 1 is Karnataka’s Statehood Day. Karnataka celebrates Rayotsava Day on November 1 every year. On November 1, 1956, the state was established. The state was once known as the State of Mysore. In 1973, the name was changed to Karnataka. Karnataka was founded on the basis of linguistic diversity. Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh were the other states founded on November 1.

What criteria are used to choose Padma Awardees?

During the republic day celebrations, the names of the Padma awardees are announced. The President of India presents the prizes in Rashtrapathi Bhavan. In the months of March or April, these honours are given out. The Padma Awards Committee chooses the recipients. The Prime Minister appoints the members of the committee. Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and Padma Shri are the three 
Padma awards that were conferred. The Padma Shri is awarded for outstanding service. The Padma Bhushan is awarded for meritorious high-level service. The Padma Vibhushan is awarded for outstanding and exemplary service. These prizes are not available to government employees.
