INDIA AND FRANCE HAVE SIGNED MOU TO COLLABORATE ON HEALTH RESEARCH.

What is in the News?

A Memorandum of Understanding on hereditary disorders and emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases was recently signed between India and France. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between France's Institute Pasteur and India's CSIR. It was signed under the auspices of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The Memorandum of Understanding

Under the provisions of the agreement, the two governments pledged to work to discover and build novel processes in cell biology, vaccine development, virology, infectious diseases, human evolutionary genetics research, and computational biology.

Significance

The countries will provide inexpensive health care solutions not only for their citizens, but also for the global good, as a result of the agreement. Scientific and technological networking is a requirement of the agreement.

Background

Prime Minister Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron agreed on the sidelines of the G20 conference in October 2021 that the two countries shared same aims in health, the environment, and innovation. The leaders' meeting resulted in the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding.

Recent occurrences

The Indo-French Year of Environment was started in 2021 by India and France. The main goal was to strengthen international cooperation in order to make the world a greener place. This expanded the number of activities taken in the name of global environmental conservation, as well as their visibility.

 Four agreements on cyber security and digital technology were signed by the countries in 2019. In the subject of energy conservation, India and France signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2018. It includes technical assistance cooperation.

France – India

France is considered by India to be a "goodwill partner." In France, there are over one lakh NRIs. France was one of the first countries to sign the nuclear pact with India. Science and technology, culture, trade and business, and education are all growing areas of collaboration between the countries. In 1988, diplomatic relations were established. Since then, high-level leaders have met on a regular basis, primarily to discuss nuclear energy, defence, and space.
