INDIA’S PASSPORT RANKING HAS RISEN FROM 90 TO 83

  • Japan and Singapore, have record-breaking levels of travel freedom
  • India has climbed seven places up and has been ranked at 83rd position.
  • Germany and South Korea are ranked second and third, respectively, with passport holders having visa-free entry to 190 destinations.

The Henley Passport Index 2022 was just published. The top-ranking countries, Japan and Singapore, have record-breaking levels of travel freedom, according to the newest edition.

The report’s main findings

  • The survey also finds that the worldwide mobility gap was at its biggest since the index’s inception 17 years ago.
  • Passport holders from two Asian countries, Japan and Singapore, can now travel to 192 countries without a visa. It outnumbers Afghanistan by 166.
  • Afghanistan is ranked at the bottom of the list.

India’s Passport Authority

According to the Index, India’s passport power improved in the first quarter of 2022. India is now rated 83rd, up seven places. It was ranked 90th in the world in 2021. India now offers visa-free travel to more than 60 nations. Only 58 countries were eligible for visa-free travel in 2021. Oman and Armenia have lately been added to the list of countries that require a previous visa.

In 2022, the best passports to have are

Japan and Singapore were ranked first, with passport holders having visa-free entry to 192 places. Germany and South Korea are ranked second and third, respectively, with passport holders having visa-free entry to 190 destinations. With a total score of 189, Finland, Italy, Spain, and Luxembourg tied for third place. With a visa-free score of 188, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, France, and the Netherlands are in fourth position.

The US and UK passports have regained their prior strength and are currently ranked 6th with a visa-free or visa-on-arrival score of 186. They fell to 8th place in 2020, the lowest in the index’s 17-year history.

In 2022, the worst passports to have

North Korea is ranked 104th in the world, with access to 39 locations. With a score of 37, Nepal and Palestinian territories are ranked 105th. Pakistan is rated 108th in the world, with a score of 31. Afghanistan was the lowest performance, having access to only 26 nations.

The Index of Henley Passports

The index ranks 199 passports based on the number of visa-free or visa-on-arrival destinations to which their holders have access. Throughout the year, the index is updated in real time. It is based on data provided only by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
