On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, the Ministry of AYUSH has decided to hold a "Global Surya Namaskar Demonstration Programme" on January 14, 2022.

About the Surya Namaskar Demonstration Programme on a Global Scale

The event would be attended by 75 lakh people from all around India. Surya Namaskar, a prayer and gratitude to the Sun, will be performed during the event as a way of expressing thanks for the Sun's rays, which nourish all living things.

The message of global warming and climate change is also conveyed through the mass Surya Namaskar demonstration programme.

Surya Namaskar means "Sun Salutation" or "Sun Salutation"

Surya Namaskar is a yoga asana practise that consists of a series of twelve beautifully linked asanas. Yoga was first recorded in the twentieth century. Similar workouts, particularly among wrestlers, were used in India before that. Surya, the solar deity, is honoured in this sequence of 12 asanas. Each position is associated with a different mantra.

Surya Namaskar has a long and illustrious history

The Surya Namaskar's precise origins are unknown. In the early twentieth century, Bhawanrao Shriniwasrao Pant Pratinidhi popularised the sequence. In the Mysore Palace, Krishnamacharya incorporated it with yoga.

Surya Namaskar's Importance

Surya Namaskar is known to boost immunity and energy, all of which are important in the face of the covid-19 pandemic. The human body receives Vitamin D from exposure to the sun, which is generally advised in all medical branches around the world.

Makar Sankranti is the Hindu New Year

Makar Sankranti marks the beginning of the Sun's journey into Capricorn. In the Hindu calendar, the sun swings northwards during this phase. Surya is the deity to whom it is devoted. Every year on January 1st, the Sun enters the Capricorn zodiac, which corresponds to the month of January on the Gregorian calendar. The first day of the sun's transit into Makara Rashi is today.
