News Highlights :

  • While one CCTV camera will be near the front door, the other will be close to the rear door.
  • The mandatory SOS button, which BEST plans to place in its red buses, is a second measure for women’s safety

Just imagine that for the safety of women, cameras should be installed in buses too. Sometimes we just think but don’t really consider whether it can happen or not. Today’s news is based on some interesting beginnings which can be a very important step from the point of view of security for the women of India.

What is up in news?

With the New Year just around the corner, the BEST announced recently a plethora of initiatives aimed at ensuring safe travel for women commuters in 2022.

Cameras on busses

“We have ordered that all new buses acquired under wet lease be equipped with two cameras, whether they are non-AC CNG buses or AC electric buses.” BEST general manager Lokesh Chandra remarked, “This will also apply to current wet lease buses in the fleet as well as existing BEST-owned buses.”

Placement of camera and other details

One CCTV camera will be located at the entrance door, while the other will be located near the back door. This ensures that the entire bus (including passengers) is filmed throughout the voyage. Criminals and mischief-makers will be deterred by the camera, according to Chandra.

The SOS Button

An SOS button linked to eCall is now found in an increasing number of cars and other vehicles . If your car is engaged in an accident, the eCall technology instantly alerts emergency personnel. By tapping the SOS button, you can manually contact the emergency services.

The mandatory SOS button, which BEST plans to place in its red buses, is a second measure for women’s safety. According to sources, women commuters can utilize the SOS switch in an emergency to alert the control room, police, and others.
