WOMEN WHO BROUGHT GLORY TO THE NATION IN 2021

There was a time when women were suppressed to see the brighter side of the world. Previously, women were only confined to the kitchen in many areas of the country. They were never given the opportunity to showcase their creativity to the rest of the world. However, in today’s society, women are following in the footsteps of men in every sector and demonstrating their abilities.
Women in India have made extraordinary strides in various sectors over the last few decades, making their mark as empowered women. On one end of the spectrum, women are praised for their brainpower in politics, media, medicine, law, engineering, and other respected professions, while on the other end, women are praised for their beauty with the brain in the glamour industry’s actresses, models, and brand ambassadors.

The year 2021 had been a mark-setting year for many. Various new faces appeared in front of the world, exemplifying their creativity. We will soon bid adieu to 2021, which brought with it a whirlwind of changes and progress for us. For one thing, 2021 has largely been a year of women taking on important roles, breaking glass ceilings, and accomplishing the most. Women in India have shown the way forward this year, from Gita Gopinath to BV Nagarathna. They have enabled millions of people to dream big. 1. Sudha Murthy:


An Indian engineering teacher, chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, social worker, author, and a member of the public health care initiatives of the Gates Foundation, Sudha Murthy had been a matter of discussion in 2021 when she appeared in the KBC. Sudha Murthy graced the contestant’s chair on KBC 11 finale and earned a heavy amount of ₹25 lakh. In the show, Murthy shared various tales of her life and her journey of becoming the founder of the renowned company Infosys. Along with this, Sudha Murthy has once again made it to the list of the World’s Most Admired Women list in 2021. Murthy was ranked 14th in the World’s Most Admired Women 2021, three spots higher than the previous year. She was ranked 17th on the list of the World’s Most Admired Women 2020, released by a global public opinion and data company.

2. BV Nagarathna: 


B V Nagarathna is supposed to create history in the world of Justice. Nine new judges, including three women, were appointed to the Supreme Court this year. Amongst these Judges, Justice BV Nagarathna is likely to be the first woman Chief Justice of India in 2027. Born on October 30, 1962, Nagarathna was appointed as an additional judge in 2008 and was promoted to a permanent judge of the Karnataka High Court two years later. Justice Nagarathna will follow in the footsteps of her father, ES Venkataramiah, who served as Chief Justice of India in 1989.

3. Rema Rajeshwari: 


 Whether it was raising awareness about the ill effects of plastic usage or combating rumors or fake WhatsApp forwards, Rema Rajeshwari of Idukki, Kerala, was always at the forefront. Her efforts had been recently recognized by Forbes India magazine for her continuous selfless service during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2018, she also emerged as Munnar’s first female IPS officer.

4. Smt. SangkhumiBualchhuak:


 Aizawl-based social worker, Smt. SangkhumiBualchhuak contributed to some revolutionary policies for the betterment and upliftment of women, ushering in significant changes and reforms in Mizo society. Smt. SangkhumiBualchhuak was honored with the Padma Shri by President Ram Nath Kovind this year for her immense contributions to social work. She founded Mizoram’s first women’s de-addiction, rehabilitation, and counseling center. Her vocational training courses have aided the patients in their pursuits of self-employment and entrepreneurship.

5. Gita Gopinath: 


 Mysuru native, Gita Gopinath made it to the headlines earlier this month when she was appointed as the IMF’s first deputy managing director. Prior to this, she was the IMF’s chief economist. According to the global fund, she will begin her new role in January 2022. In 2019, Foreign Policy named her one of the year’s Top Global Thinkers. The Indian government bestowed upon her the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, the highest honor conferred on overseas Indians. During her doctoral studies at Princeton, she received the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship Research Award.

6. Mithali Raj:


 Mitali Raj, the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, is a gem of Indian cricket industry. She is the pride of the nation. She made headlines this year when she became the first female cricketer to receive the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. Among women cricketers, the 38-year-old is the leading run-scorer on the international circuit.

7. Dr. Padma Bandopadhyay: 


The first woman Air Marshal of the Indian Air Force, Dr. Padmavathy Bandopadhyay received the Padma Shri award this year on November 9. She was one of 119 people chosen to receive the third-highest civilian honor this year. In 1968, she joined the IAF and married Wing Commander SN Bandopadhyay. Dr. Padma Bandopadhyay received the Vashisht Seva Medal (VSM) for her service during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. She was the first woman in the Indian Air Force to be elected as a Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Society of India and the first Indian woman to conduct scientific research at the North Pole.

8. Leena Nair:


Leena Nair is the first Indian woman to hold the position of Global Head of Chanel, the French luxury fashion house. Leena Nair will now serve as Chanel’s global Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Nair will take over in January, according to Shanail’s statement. Before this, she was Unilever’s top human resources executive. As a result, she has risen to the top of the list of CEOs of Indian origin. Nair will take over the luxury fashion brand in January. With this, she joins the ranks of Indian-origin executives such as Sundar Pichai, Parag Agrawal, and Satya Nadella, who lead top global corporations.
