INDIA’S JHILLI DALABEHERA CLAIMS SILVER IN COMMONWEALTH WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Jhilli Dalabehera competed in the women’s 49kg weight class. Mirabai Chanu, a Tokyo Olympic medalist, competes in the same weight category but did not compete in the tournament. Jhilli Dalabehera, is an Indian weightlifter, she took silver in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2021 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Jhilli Dalabehera
Jhilli Dalabehera, a previous world junior bronze medalist and Asian weightlifting champion in the 45kg division, competed in the women’s 49kg. Mirabai Chanu, a Tokyo Olympic medalist, competes in the same division but did not compete in Tashkent.
Jhilli Dalabehera, 22, set a personal best by lifting 73 kilogram’s in snatch and 94 kilogram’s in clean and jerk for an overall effort of 167 kg.

Indian place in the tournament
Among the Commonwealth nations that competed, India’s effort was ranked second. Gold medalist Nigeria’s Peter Stella Kingsley, who lifted 168kg (72+96) to win the gold, beat her by a whisker.

World Weightlifting Championships
The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships are a qualifying event for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Which is going to held in 2022. It’s taking place at the same time as the World Weightlifting Championships. Gold medalists from each category will make the cut for the Commonwealth Games next year.

The champions of the championship
Surodchana Khambao of Thailand won all three gold medals in the world championships in the 49kg weight category. She totaled 191kg by lifting 86kg in snatch and 105kg in clean and jerk. On Thursday, the men’s 61kg tournament will take place. Guru Raja of India will be in action. The global championships feature 432 athletes (187 females and 245 males) from 74 countries. On December 17, the meet will come to a close.
