‘SHE IS A CHANGEMAKER’ LAUNCHED BY NCW TO IMPROVE LEADERSHIP SKILLS OF WOMEN IN POLITICS


Highlights
• In order to empower and promote for women in politics, the ‘She is a Changemaker’ initiative is started.
• It is a capacity-building initiative that will be administered together in collaboration with regional training institutes.
• It will be undertaken with the goal of increasing the ability of female political leaders and strengthening their decision-making and communication abilities.

On December 7, 2021, the National Commission for Women (NCW) announced the ‘She is a Changemaker’ initiative for female politicians. Women’s representatives at all levels, from gram panchayats to parliament, as well as political workers and office bearers of national and state-level political parties, have been invited to participate in a pan-India capacity-building programme.
The capacity-building initiative will be carried out in collaboration with training institutes in each region. The program’s primary goal will be to increase the ability of female political leaders.

Aim of the initiative
The fundamental goal of the ‘She is a Changemaker’ programme is to develop the leadership and decision-making abilities of grassroots women political leaders, as well as their communication skills, such as oration and writing.

Training programmes are being launched.
In coordination with Rhambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, Thane, Maharashtra, training programmes under the She is a Changemaker initiative were launched.

One who started the programme?
The campaign’s programmes were officially launched by NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma.

Women’s National Commission (NCW)
The National Commission for Women is a statutory entity of the Indian government. It is normally tasked with advising the government on all issues concerning women’s policy. The National Commission for Women (NCW) was founded 29 years back on January 31, 1992, in compliance with the National Commission for Women Act of 1990. It was first headed by Jayanti Patnaik , the first chairperson of the commission .

About the Women’s National Commission
The National Commission for Women (NCW) is the national government’s official authority for women. It advises the government on all policy issues affecting women in general. It was formed in the year 1992, aiming to promote women and interest of women.

NCW’s Functions
The NCW is dedicated to achieving the following goals:
• In India, It promote for women’s rights.
• To provide a platform for women’s issues and concerns.
On January 31, 1992, the commission was constituted. Jayanti Patnaik was the commission’s first chairperson.

Positive aspects of the initiative
The ‘She is a Changemaker programme’ aims to profit every woman who wishes to form an identity for herself in politics and help her claim her rightful space in politics. NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said, “I hope that ‘She is a Changemaker’ project will mark a replacement beginning within the lives of girls who are determined to bring a positive change within the society.”
